1. Overview of Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City

Binh Chanh District is a suburban area in the south and west of Ho Chi Minh City. Historically, it was part of Tan Binh Prefecture, Gia Dinh Province during the Nguyen Dynasty. Later, it became part of Cho Lon Province under French colonial rule. It was officially established as Binh Chanh District in 1957, temporarily divided into North Binh Chanh and South Binh Chanh in 1960, and reunified in 1972. In 2003, a portion of its area was separated to form Binh Tan District.
