Khem Beach - Explore the lush natural beauty of Phu Quoc

13/08/2025 20.347

Bai Khem beach is cited as Vietnam's "mysterious pearl" for good reasons. Its primitive landscape, peaceful vibe, clean seawater, and diverse marine ecosystem doubtlessly fascinate eco-tourists traveling to Phu Quoc.

Khem beach

Phu Quoc island recently has welcomed ever-increasing local and international tourists considering its astonishing coastlines. Yet many hidden places have been underrated on the island, including Khem Beach. If you are looking for an exotic experience for your vacation in Phu Quoc, Bai Khem beach will be your tailor-made destination. Here are what Khem beach offers and why it is worth a visit.

1. About Khem Beach Vietnam

Khem Beach, or Kem Beach, is located in the southern part of Phu Quoc Island in what was formerly An Thoi Ward, Phu Quoc City, now part of Phu Quoc Special Zone. The beach is approximately 25 kilometers from Duong Dong, the island's center. The beach served as a military out-of-bounds area until 2009. Since 2014, Khem Beach in Phu Quoc has been available for tourists.

Khem Beach Vietnam is honored in the top 50 of the most beautiful beaches on the globe based on its sheer untouched beauty, atmosphere, accessibility, sand and water quality, and average annual temperature (Fight Network, 2018).

Khem beach

Khem Beach captivates visitors with its picturesque scenery of triumphant blue water, a smooth curve, and natural stone blocks. Climbing a few cliffs leads to a breathtaking beach view amid a tropical forest, providing a peaceful vibe for those seeking a relaxing break away from the city's hustle. Also, fun water sports, various fresh seafood dishes, and diverse marine ecosystems are remarkable things that you couldn’t miss when traveling to Bai Khem beach.

Khem Beach is gorgeous all year, making it hard to pinpoint just one best time to visit Khem Beach Phu Quoc. During the dry season (November to April), the island enjoys ideal weather with sunshine and little rain—perfect for beach lovers. Because Khem Beach faces southeast, it catches northeast monsoon winds during this time, creating livelier waves that are still great for swimming. Interestingly, the rainy season (May to October) reveals Khem Beach at its calmest: the location protects it from southwest winds, resulting in glass-like, crystal-clear waters. If your Phu Quoc trip falls during the wet months, Khem Beach is your best bet for peaceful swimming when other Phu Quoc beaches face rough conditions.

2. How to get to Khem Beach Phu Quoc

Bai Khem Beach location is easily accessible by motorbike or car. You can catch a taxi from Duong Dong to reach the beach, or rent a motorbike or car from locals to make the journey at your own pace.

  • By taxi or ride-hailing services: Taxis and ride-hailing services like XanhSM and Grab offer a comfortable, hassle-free option. Expect to pay 250,000-350,000 VND one way from Duong Dong.
  • By private car: Car rentals with drivers cost approximately 800,000-1,200,000 VND for a half-day trip. This works well for families or groups who want air conditioning and don't want to navigate independently. Most hotels can arrange this service.
  • By bus: Some intra-island bus routes connect Duong Dong to the southern part of Phu Quoc. Bus Route 11 runs to the An Thoi area near Khem Beach, offering the most budget-friendly transportation option. The bus won't drop you directly at the beach entrance—expect a short walk from the nearest stop. This works best for travelers with light beach gear and a flexible schedule.
  • By motorbike: Renting a motorbike is the most popular and flexible option. Rentals cost around 100,000-150,000 VND per day and are readily available throughout Duong Dong. From Dinh Cau Temple, you can follow 2 routes to get to Khem Beach:
    • Option 1 (via DT975): Follow Tran Hung Dao Street in Duong Dong, head south on Route DT975 for approximately 25 kilometers until you reach the intersection of DT975 and Nguyen Van Cu Street in An Thoi. The entrance gate to Khem Beach is right at this intersection—just a few hundred meters further.
    • Option 2 (via DT46): Follow 30 Thang 4 Street (DT47) for about 10 kilometers until you reach Ham Ninh Roundabout, where DT47 and DT46 meet. Continue on Route DT46 for another 18 kilometers to reach the entrance gate to Khem Beach.
